The Ghoul, The Deathknight and Me
Welcome Exo fans!
Recently, apart from the excessive university work i've had, my world has become solely about my wonderful Deathknight Kuchiku. I have been levelling furiously and it has already come to the point where i'm getting dungeon quests turning green in Northrend just because i am becoming absorbed by the fullfilling new content.I thought i would do my part for the Guild and give a quick run down on how i've found the Deathknight and with special attention toward the Unholy talent tree which i am currently specced in.
As my first lvl 60 character was Discobear (hunter) i, of course, went straight for the Unholy spec for my wonderful enhanced ghoul. Where as blood is apparently the strongest tree for lvling, due to it's currently inhumanly high DPS, i have found Unholy a rewarding experience with a still reasonable DPS output. I have tried many of the tree abilities settling on my favourites after a few payed resets and i have some to know the flexibility that the tree alone gives a propective Deathknight.
I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy. Or Rootgrabber. Yeah that's just as good
Well here it is. Ghoul enhancing, pet controlling Ghoul on Ghoul action! I of course refer to the cluster of Unholy points revolving around that lovable undead hooligan that follows you about. It all starts with Ravenous Dead pumping both your strength and your supplement to your ghoul. Master of Ghouls rewards you with the ability to stop that brainless undead Tradesmen attacking everything within proximity allowing for some interesting group pulls for when Death and Decay is the order of the day. This is preceeded by the wonderful Shadow of Death bumping that important strength and stamina once again and giving your enemies the added annoyance that your coming back as a ghoul to torment them in double vision (also allows for looting)!
Novelty Items
I personally tried and then strayed away from the abilities that i would refer to as "novelty" spells. I had my fair share of Corpse Explosions and Summon Gargoyles and was expectingly dissapointed. Where as the extra DPS of the Gargoyle and turning the nearest corpse into a carvery platter can be entertaining the fun factor wore thin very quickly.
Nothing Like an Epidemic!
Smell that? Smells like disease, and with such abilities as Epidemic you can happily sit back spamming your favourite attacks with no fear that your diseases are going to run out and have to be reapplied with each rotation of your runes. As if this wasn't enough, combining this with Crypt Fever and Ebon Plague makes for fun times, regularly stacking 3 diseases per Icy Touch or Plague strike (4 if you want to use both ;p)
Don't worry. I carry protection
Some of the more tank efficient abilities become apparent from this tree toward the bottom but can be very useful for DPS grinding also. 2 such abilities are Anti-Magic Zone and Bone Shield. The results can often be devasting as i've happily taken out 3 person elite mobs and also groups of up to 7 mobs of the same level (not at the same time yet though).
1 out of 3 ain't bad
This refers to some of the great passive abilities found in the tree such as Blood-Caked Blade (as suggested by it's 30% proc rate). This cake is not a lie, giving that great extra edge for pushing that DPS boundry. Another fantastic passive ability is that of Desecration. Maxed out, whether a Plague Strike lands your damage gets a welcome boost of 5% and also a slowing effect of 50% for those pesky fleeing mobs (which is plenty when you're a terrifying Deathknight!). It also allows for some ever useful back pedalling when distance is a must (thats right. back pedalling. not retreating ;p).
Mother said always try something different!
And so i did! I've thrown in a splash of Frost and Blood trees to help with the DPS output. From Blood i've stolen Butchery which makes great for some extra passive rune power in combat. I've also taken Improved Icy Touch for that slowing effect on enemy attacks and also the following Icy Talons to steal it for myself
I'm currently sporting the Lichborne ability too which is useful albeit a degree distracting (great to spam yourself with Deathcoil though).
Well. That's the round trip from our dearest Kuchiku and even if i don't give anything i hope it's been an enlightening read for all.
Yours Unholy(ly?)

intresting read, almost makes me want to roll a DK

ok, i have tried a DK, but got confused with the class lol
just wondering as everyone sayd that DK's where OP in thier lower lvls but will come in par with other class's at 80, how do you feel about that?
DK's are still OP at

DK's are still OP at 72-74lvl in PvE (I don't know about PvP). Eg. I can solo yellow group quests. But if this is the case at 80lvl, it will be fixed in the future. Most important is that DK is fun to play and has some unique abilities
These abilities make leveling / grinding easy (+20% speed when mounted, death grip, walking on water when mounted, permanent pet...)
Well not sure if solo'ing

Well not sure if solo'ing yellow group quests is OP, i could do many group quests solo on my druid as well. (and i know pala's can do this as well)
I feel in dungeons at 70+ we're not as OP anymore as we were in the 60-70 levels. I dont feel we deal more than moderate damage and though we have high survivability, there are other classes that share that with us as well.

You're probably right, at 58lvl we were given gear with a lot of +str. In Outlands there wasn't much gear with more damage capabilities. Now in Northrend we replace it with better gear as everybody else.
Very nice reading material

Very nice reading material indeed
Almost makes me wanna ditch Spitbeard and level a DK. Almost
I agree with Thondar that other classes can solo group q's too, like my loveable pallie Spitbeard
One thing I've noticed is the sheer quantity of DK's now levelling. Almost all the instances I've healed in, were with 4 DK's. Don't know if this says anything about being OP or just about DK's being a popular new class.
It started out small...keep getting smaller [Matt The Electrician]
Thracite, i think the main

Thracite, i think the main reason you see so many DK's right now is because they have to do the Outlands.
Most people (there are always exceptions
) are either levelling their pre-wotlk main (who was very likely lvl 70 before wotlk hit the shelves) and are in Northrend right now or they are levelling a DK. Since DK's start at level 58 they have to do the Outland first.

have to agree that soloing

have to agree that soloing yellow quests isnt unigue to DK's as a prot pally i could often take out elite mobs the same lvl as me or higher with 100k+ hp...just a little boasting
glad your having fun though
Nice read As soon as Keirin

Nice read
As soon as Keirin is level 80 and is comfy with her own new spells I plan on giving my Deathknight Antakir some more love. Keirin is still my main focus though ^^
Yeah I might give it a shot

Yeah I might give it a shot at some point.
However I have still enough to do with Raikir and two other characters sitting at 70 that might want to visit the frezzing colds.
To Exo/Kuchiku I'd like to add! Keep up the fun writing I enjoyed it very much !
