All questions from the several threads about Karazhan have been combined in this FAQ. Remember that the basics and a practical example of the Karazhan Invite List (KIL) are explained in this thread. If you still have questions, feel free to ask them in the comments!

1. What is the difference between KIL and the signup list?
KIL is a list with all players that are currently Karazhan-attuned. All players on KIL have a certain role and a priority-ranking. The signup list is just a list of everyone who signed up for that specific raid day. When the signup for a specific day is closed, the highest ranked players on KIL that are also on the signup list will be given a spot in the raid.
2. What is the ‘priority range’ of KIL?
For the tanking list the first two players on within the priority range. For the healing list it will be the first three players, and for the dps list it will be the first five players who get priority. If you are in the priority range of the list, a spot in the raid will be guaranteed as long as you sign up. If you are not in the priority range, you will only be able to join when one (or more, depending on your position on the list) of the priority-players doesn't sign up.
3. At which moments will KIL be updated?
Karazhan is reset every Wednesday morning. Our first raid day will be Wednesday evening, and the second raid day will be Sunday afternoon. KIL will be updated only after the second raid day. Why? Because people that helped clearing the first part of Karazhan on Wednesday will get the chance to finish the thing that they've worked very hard for on Sunday then. So everyone will get the chance to get as far as possible in Karazhan during one reset period. If someone can’t join on Wednesday or Sunday, the highest notated people on KIL will get priority to join. However, if for example the number 1 on the dps list can come on Sunday only, he will get priority over the number 6 on the list that took his place during Wednesday's raid, to prevent that it will become impossible to join Sunday raids only.
4. I have an attuned level 70 alt. How will be dealt with alts on KIL?
If a player has one or more alts that are Karazhan-attuned as well, all characters of this player will go to the bottom of the list when he has joined a raid with one of these characters. This is to prevent that a player can come with another character every raid, which would make it harder for players with only one character to join.
5. How will the looting be done during the runs?
Looting will just be on rolling, as there won't be too many people fighting for the same class items.
6. I was in the priority range of KIL, but only attended one run. What will happen to me on KIL?
When updating KIL, players that have joined only one raid during the last week will be placed at the bottom of the list first, followed by players who have joined two runs. So in practise that will mean that players that have joined only one run will end up higher on the updated list, and thus will be able to join a new raid sooner.
7. When will the signup for a specific raid day be closed?
The signup for Wednesday’s raid closes on Tuesday at 18:00 (gametime) and the signup for Sunday’s raid closes on Saturday at 18:00. As soon as possible after 18:00, one of the officers will put the raid for that specific day on the website, so that everyone can see a day in advance if they will actually be part of the raid. This last thing is especially meant for players that are not in the priority range of KIL, because everyone in the priority range can be sure about a spot anyway.
8. I wasn’t in the priority range on KIL, but I could join a raid because someone in the priority range didn’t sign up. Will I be placed at the bottom of the list at the end of the reset period?
Yes. Everyone who has joined a raid during a certain reset period will be placed at the bottom of the list afterwards. However, players that have joined only one raid will be moved first, followed by players who attended two raids.
9. It can happen that a certain class is not in the raid, and thus things might get very hard. Will the raid still take place then?
Yes. We prefer a fair invite system over speeding up raid progress, especially since we are a casual guild. During the past months we've been thinking and discussing for a lot of hours about what would be the ideal system for us, but the conclusion was that there isn't a perfect system. A first-come first serve signup is not fair, completely random rolling for raid spots every time is too much luck-based, selecting the best players with the best gear would create an elite team and would make others feel left out, and so on.
For example, we have a lot of level 70 hunters in the guild (I think about 6), and I think only two active warlocks. If we would go for a perfectly balanced raid you want a hunter and a warlock in your raid every week. But that would mean that the warlocks could join once per two weeks, but the hunters only once per six weeks. That huge difference in waiting time does not outweigh the small advantage you would get by bringing a warlock every week, and therefore I prefer the system we use now. We don't want people to feel disappointed because they've accidentally rolled a class that has to wait 1.5 month before they can go to Karazhan again.
Yes, an ultra-balanced raid would be perfect, but if that would require a lot of rules and waiting time for certain classes, we don't think it would fit our guild. We are not a raiding guild, so having fun during an evening is more important than fast progress. The main aim is to give everyone as much as possible the same chance to join, although there will always remain some differences between the tanking, healing and dps role. As long as there are enough tanks, healers and dps players, the raid will continue.
10. What will happen if there is a shortage of players after the signup has been closed?
The first player of the specific missing role (tank/heal/dps) that is willing to help us out will get the spot. If no one of the missing role is available, we will ask if one of the hybrid players is willing to play a different role for one time (if we have additional hybrid players available). If we still have free spots then, we will ask players from other guilds to help us out. And if we really can’t find a solution to get the raid complete, we will need to cancel the raid.
11. I've managed to finish my attunement! How will I be added to KIL?
New players that are attuned will be added to KIL at the end of the reset period. When these players have been added, the rest of KIL will be updated by moving players that joined last week's raid to the bottom of the list. Because new attuned players are added before players of last week's raids are moved to the bottom, they will be able to join a raid soon.
